In the Last Days…

Our pastor today preached on Jude. If you haven’t read Jude recently, it might be a good time to take a look at it. It’s not hard; it’s a short book; only 1 chapter and 25 verses.

I’d forgotten how well this book, written almost 2,000 years ago, describes today.

They said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, following their own ungodly passions.”
Jude 1:18

This echos almost verbatim what the Holy Spirit wrote through Peter:

knowing this first of all, that scoffers will come in the last days with scoffing, following their own sinful desires.
2 Peter 3:3

Now, to be fair, it seems we have been in the end times ever since Jesus’ day. I do not know if the scoffers in the times of the apostles were as vocal and abusive as they are today.

But Jude 1:19 talks of how these scoffers match the non-believers of today:

It is these who cause divisions, worldly people, devoid of the Spirit.
Jude 1:19

Do a Google search on “atheist” and you’ll find over 12 million hits. Atheism, or Secular Humanism, is one of the fastest growing cults. As we learn our Christian doctrine so we can speak with conviction to those in our mission field, we must realize that there is a large, growing anti-church movement, fueled by the media, preaching that God doesn’t exist.

As sad as this is, I have to believe that this vocal movement can mean only one thing; that I may be blessed to see the return of my Saviour in my lifetime.
